African American Sports & Entertainment Group and The Town FC announce strategic alliance to bring NWSL Expansion team to Oakland

OAKLAND, CA, November 2nd –  The African American Sports & Entertainment Group (“AASEG”) and The Town FC are excited to announce their intentions to explore the pursuit of bringing a National Women’s Soccer League (“NWSL”) franchise to the Oakland/East Bay region. Over the course of the last few months, the two groups have discussed at length their shared belief in the power of women’s sports and the role that professional women’s soccer can play in advancing the collective interests of their community. Through the course of those talks, it quickly became clear that the opportunity does exist to deliver a truly world class women’s professional soccer team to Oakland, and The Town. The two groups look forward to realizing that opportunity, and are working together to develop what they hope can become the best women’s soccer team that the world has ever seen.

Beyond professional soccer, they plan to create youth focused soccer programs to aid in the healthy development of local girls and boys while also working to support community based recreational and competitive adult amateur soccer. The two organizations are thrilled to announce their commitment to bringing back international exhibition games to the East Bay, including at the Oakland Coliseum, which still holds soccer as some of its highest grossing events ever on record there.

In understanding that they are just at the beginning of their journey together, the specifics and details of the process are still taking shape. As they advance their effort they look forward to sharing more on the discussions they are having around finding value and vision aligned partners and investors who want to build something special and new with us.

The work ahead in the coming months will also present a unique opportunity for members of our community, and for lovers of the beautiful game of soccer, to share your voice in the formation of our club.  We welcome the responsibility to steward the forward direction of this once in a lifetime project, and to working with the public to deliver a true community asset for our great Town.
