East Bay soccer leader Keely Wachs joins The Town FC Academy as Director of Individual Development Planning (IDP)

Keely Wachs

THE TOWN, CA – The Town FC Academy is excited to announce the appointment of Keely Wachs as the new Director of Individual Development Planning (IDP), adding another significant milestone in reshaping youth soccer development in the East Bay area.

Keely Wachs brings a distinguished background in soccer and player development, making him the perfect choice to advance The Town FC Academy’s mission to put players first. A former all-conference collegiate soccer player at UC Davis and the CEO of Full Potential Football, Keely has helped countless youth players thrive using a proprietary methodology inspired by the elite practices of professional soccer clubs worldwide. His impressive soccer resume also includes serving as President of East Bay United, co-founding Goal Five (the world’s first apparel brand for women soccer players), and earning a certification in Scouting and Player Development from MBP Barcelona.

“By placing player development at the center of its club, The Town FC Academy is fundamentally changing the way that soccer clubs operate in the U.S.,” said Keely Wachs, the new Director of IDP. “I couldn’t be more excited to work with the club’s coaches, players, and families to apply our trailblazing player development methodology to the East Bay’s talent pool – one of the richest in the U.S.”

The Town FC Academy aims to revolutionize the traditional approach to youth soccer by implementing Individual Development Plans (IDPs) across all U13-U19 teams. IDPs are personalized, player-specific roadmaps designed to enhance skills, game knowledge, and overall performance. Each plan identifies a player’s strengths, areas for growth, and short- and long-term goals with a data-driven and collaborative approach that includes players, coaches, and families.

Unlike the conventional “cookie-cutter” methods commonly seen in youth soccer, The Town FC is adopting Full Potential Football’s cutting-edge methodology, offering a developmental approach typically reserved for professional academies. Key features of this innovative model include:

  1. Data-Driven Analytics: Video analysis and performance metrics to assess each player’s progress.
  2. Focused Feedback: 1-on-1 coaching sessions to refine individual skills and integrate personalized development strategies into practice routines.
  3. Weekly Positional IDP Training Days: Specialized sessions that focus on position-specific growth areas identified in IDPs.
  4. Dedicated IDP Oversight: A full-time Director of IDP ensures that every player receives consistent, actionable feedback and support.

“Our belief is simple,” said Jon Scoles, General Manager for The Town FC Academy. “If we focus on helping players improve every day, collective team success will naturally follow. Player development always comes first.”

IDPs stand out in the competitive soccer scene by fostering a player-centered culture. They offer numerous advantages, including:

  1. Helping athletes grow technically, tactically, physically, and psychologically.
  2. Aligning coaches, players, and parents with a unified development pathway.
  3. Encouraging long-term progress over immediate wins.
