The Town FC improves to 2-0-0 at home after routing Timbers2, Adimabua records brace

Nonso Adimabua (55) scored two goals for The Town FC while also pressuring Portland to concede an own goal in the fourth minute.

MORAGA, Calif. — For the second straight week, The Town FC lit up the scoreboard at The Park at Saint Mary’s Stadium, putting up five goals against Portland Timbers2.

The 5-0 win featured an appearance from San Jose Earthquakes star midfielder Hernán López, who played 32 minutes while logging two shots on target. The Designated Player suffered a shoulder injury in March and Sunday was his first appearance since March 1. First-round SuperDraft pick Reid Roberts and newly acquired Quake Noel Buck also slotted in the starting 11.

It only took 12 seconds for TTFC to come out ahead, as forward Diogo Baptista scored the quickest goal in Town FC history on the team’s first attacking sequence. Baptista received a deflected cross from forward Chance Cowell in front of the six-yard box and used his left foot to put it through. The goal was Baptista’s first-ever TTFC tally in what turned out to be his longest career outing (63 minutes).

In the fourth minute, TTFC’s defense pressured Timbers2 into conceding an own goal, with forward Nonso Adimabua back deep, forcing Portland defender Alex Bamford to scramble and kick it in his own net.

Adimabua scored The Town FC’s next two goals, using his athletic skill and speed to enter the box and extend the team’s lead in the 39th and 55th minute marks. Midfielder Cruz Medina capped off the scoring flurry, registering an uncontested goal early in the second-half stoppage time period to send fans home happy.

Goalkeeper Francesco Montali only needed to save three shots to earn his second victory of the season. Identical to last match, The Town FC had 21 shots, with 10 on target.

TTFC had previously played Portland in just its second match of the season on March 26, with Timbers2 winning in a shootout after an even regulation. The victory earned The Town FC its second win of the season, now with seven points on a 2-3-1 record.

The Town FC will face St. Louis CITY2 to conclude the three-match homestand on May 11 before going on the road for three games. St. Louis owns 14 points and sits toward the top of the Western Conference after taking down Houston Dynamo 2 on Sunday.

Next week’s match will kick off at 5 p.m. as The Town FC searches for three straight wins.
