The Town FC’s win on Sunday was its first regulation road win of 2025.
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The Town FC’s 3-0 triumph over Colorado Rapids 2 on Sunday solidified the near-perfect month for the Bay Area club, finishing with four clean sheets, three regulation victories and one shootout win.
Colorado, a team ahead of TTFC in the table, pressured early following the brief weather delay, but goalkeeper David Sweeney, along with The Town FC’s back line, stood firm against the home side.
Sweeney’s start was his first in over a month, and his clean sheet was his first of the season. The 24-year-old made two saves against Rapids 2.
TTFC broke the silence in the 38th minute with a goal from forward Nonso Adimabua, who fired in the nicely placed feed from defender Jamar Ricketts.
The tally was Adimabua’s fourth of the season, and he would stay busy, assisting The Town FC’s next two goals.
TTFC finished off its scoring with two goals in eight minutes during the second half. In the 69th minute, following a yellow card given to Colorado’s Jaden Chan Track, The Town FC put itself in a prime position to score again off a free kick. Midfielder Cruz Medina lobbed the ball inside the box, Adimabua headed it to forward Missael Rodríguez, who buried it while sliding, giving the road club a decisive 2-0 advantage.
Rodríguez’s goal was his first in MLS NEXT Pro since 2023, and his first as a member of The Town FC. TTFC wasn’t done yet, as midfielder Nick Fernandez netted his second goal of the season in the 77th minute. Fernandez’s goal came off a volley, as he received a cross-box pass from Adimabua and rocketed the ball in off his right foot.
Sweeney’s clean sheet secured the team’s fourth straight shutout, a TTFC record. The team’s previous record was a three-match shutout streak in September 2024.
The Town FC’s nine conceded goals are the second-fewest in MLS NEXT Pro, only behind MNUFC2 for the lead.
The victory also extended The Town FC’s unbeaten streak to five matches following a winless start to the 2025 campaign. It was also TTFC’s first road win in regulation this season. The Town FC is now tied for sixth place in the Western Conference, even with three other clubs.
One of those clubs is LAFC 2, The Town FC’s next opponent. TTFC will conclude its lengthy road trip in Fullerton, taking on its SoCal rival for the second time in 2025. The Town FC routed LAFC 2 in the first matchup, 5-1, on April 27, the match that marked the beginning of TTFC’s hot streak.
LAFC 2 will enter the bout coming off a clean sheet of its own over Sporting KC II. The matchup between the California clubs will commence on June 1 at 7 p.m. at Titan Stadium.
