The Town FC’s unbeaten streak reaches six matches with 2-1 triumph over LAFC 2

The Town FC has rapidly climbed the MLS NEXT Pro ranks due to its recent string of positive results, after a slow start to the season.

FULLERTON, Calif. — For the second time this season, The Town FC defeated in-state rival LAFC 2, thanks to a quick start and late heroics at Titan Stadium. The 2-1 outcome clinched TTFC’s six-straight unbeaten result, including five regulation victories.

LAFC 2 banged the crossbar in the 12th minute, but The Town FC held firm and scored four minutes later, with forward Nonso Adimabua notching his fifth goal of the season. The tally was also Adimabua’s fourth goal contribution in the last two matches and established early momentum for TTFC.

Adimabua’s goal was highlight-reel worthy; he executed a perfect bicycle kick after receiving a pass from center back Wilson Eisner and kicking the ball up to himself. Midfielder Cruz Medina was also credited with an assist on the play. The Town FC attempted to build on the momentum and nearly scored again in the 21st minute after hitting the crossbar, but wouldn’t find the back of the net until much later.

Although The Town FC came out of halftime with the lead, LAFC 2 would equalize soon after the break. In the 47th minute, winger Adrian Wibowo scored from the top of the 18-yard box to end TTFC’s clean sheet streak and even the match at one goal apiece.

But knowing that a potential three points were on the line, defender Alejandro Cano came up clutch in the 85th minute. Off a well-placed free kick into the box, forward Julian Donnery nearly headed the ball past goalkeeper Thomas Hasal, but it was deflected right to Cano, who tapped it in from point-blank range.

The goal was Cano’s first of the season and first since July 21, 2024. TTFC played strong defense for the final moments and earned its fifth regulation victory of the season.

Goalkeeper David Sweeney saved five shots and earned his second win of the season. With four starts, Sweeney is only one shy of matching his total from last season.

The Town FC’s 5-3-2 record, with 18 points, puts the club in a strong position in the Western Conference table. TTFC is sixth in the West and just five points behind top-seeded Ventura County FC.

The Town FC will return home next to face Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on June 8. The Canadian-based club, like TTFC, has been on a hot streak, riding a three-match winning streak with only two goals conceded in that span. TTFC defeated Vancouver twice in 2024 after losing in June.

The match will kick off Sunday at 5 p.m. at The Park at Saint Mary’s Stadium.
