First-teamers, newcomers rack up goals as The Town FC remains undefeated at home

The Town FC’s six consecutive regulation wins are a franchise record.

MORAGA, Calif. — Against Ventura County FC on Friday, The Town FC got on the board early and never slowed down. The Bay Area club jumped its in-state foe in the table to the tune of a 4-1 win at The Park at Saint Mary’s Stadium.

TTFC began its big day early with forward Nonso Adimabua initiating the team’s first goal in the 20th minute. Adimabua received a keen pass from Missael Rodríguez to force the ball behind the defense and score his team-leading ninth goal of the season, firing his shot without taking an extra touch. Midfielder Cruz Medina was awarded a secondary assist thanks to his interception and pass at the halfway line to set up the play.

Adimabua’s goal placed him in the team’s record book, as he passed former TTFC midfielder Eduardo Blancas for the single-season goal record since the club’s rebrand in 2024. Blancas still holds the franchise goal record with 12 and 15 total goal contributions in 2023, but that preceded The Town FC’s formation. Adimabua’s 14 goal contributions are on the heels of Blancas’ franchise record.

“We need to obviously get a win, so it helps everybody being on the same page,” Adimabua said postgame.

The Town FC never looked back after its strong start. Winger Paul Marie capitalized on a catastrophic errant feed committed by VCFC’s back line in the 26th minute, breaking free toward goal and doubling TTFC’s advantage. The first-team regular has maintained his consistent form, scoring three goals in just four matches with The Town FC in 2025.

TTFC headed into halftime with a 3-0 lead after Rodríguez made a tough shot look easy in the 42nd minute. After receiving a cross from Marie, Rodríguez lofted a right-footed shot from outside the penalty area and found the back of the net for the seventh time this season. His one-goal, one-assist performance brought him up to double-digit goal contributions, and was his second time securing multiple contributions this season.

The second half was largely smooth sailing for The Town FC. Ventura County was unable to generate offensive sequences, and when it did, it had trouble probing TTFC’s back-four. The Town FC scored its fourth and final goal in the 72nd minute when midfielder Niko Tsakiris used his quick feet to evade defenders and score at the top of the box.

Friday’s bout was Tsakiris’ first-ever appearance in a TTFC uniform, and his first in MLS NEXT Pro since 2023. The match was also special for the 20-year-old as he faced off against his younger brother, Mateo, a midfielder for VCFC.

Ventura County FC ended Francesco Montali’s clean-sheet bid as Jeorgio Kocevski nailed a penalty kick in the 88th minute to make it 4-1. Montali’s start followed a rest day in TTFC’s prior match against Vancouver, and he only needed to make one save. The Town FC’s 26 goals allowed are the lowest in the Western Conference.

The victory continued TTFC’s success at home, elevating it to an 8-0-1 record at its grounds, the best mark in all of MLS NEXT Pro. Since permanently moving to the East Bay in 2024, The Town FC is a combined 15-1-7 at home across nearly two full seasons.

“[The team has] a lot of pride in home games,” head coach Dan DeGeer said. “Hopefully, we can finish the whole season undefeated.”

Tied for second in the West and now one point above VCFC, TTFC will now venture to Texas to face Houston Dynamo 2 at SaberCats Stadium on Aug. 22. Scratching for a playoff spot, Houston will aim to defend its home turf — while The Town FC, winners of six consecutive regulation matches, with an eight-game unbeaten streak — will strive to keep up its winning ways. TTFC’s regulation win streak is its longest in franchise history, and two away from tying the league record.

The club, with 48 goals, has also passed its 41-goal finish in 2024. DeGeer attributed the uptick to the newcomers providing plenty of offense.

“Look at someone like [Adimabua] and [Rodríguez],” said DeGeer. “The verticality they bring, they want to run in behind, they want to score goals, and ultimately, that makes a big difference.”
