The Town FC extends win streak to 7 with narrow road victory over Houston

The Town FC’s seven consecutive regulation victories are one behind the league record of eight, set by St. Louis this season.

HOUSTON — The Town FC’s gritty, defensive lockdown at SaberCats Stadium earned it a clean sheet against Houston Dynamo 2 in TTFC’s first match outside of California since July 3.

The 1-0 result clinched The Town FC’s seventh regulation win in a row, one shy of the league record. With nine consecutive unbeaten results, TTFC’s streak of success has employed a variety of approaches to winning matches.

The Town FC’s one-goal showing was its first time scoring fewer than two goals since June 29, but the single tally was all it needed. Both teams traded opportunities in the first half, but couldn’t consistently find quality shots. After the break, Dynamo 2 initially thought it had found its breakthrough in the 52nd minute, as Tomás Romero found the back of the net. But an offside call came to TTFC’s aid, preventing the score from counting.

Not too long after, in the 56th minute, midfielder Nick Fernandez delivered The Town FC’s winner. The 23-year-old’s goal was made possible by an opportune passing sequence, beginning with Chance Cowell finding Nonso Adimabua at the top of the box. From there, Adimabua dished a back-heel pass to Fernandez in stride, who weaved through multiple orange jerseys to strike the ball through the net.

The goal was Fernandez’s fifth of the year and third in August. Adimabua’s assist made franchise history as he tied former TTFC forward Eduardo Blancas for the most goal contributions in a season with 15. Blancas’ 15-contribution season came in 2023, predating The Town FC’s name and image. With eight matches remaining until playoffs, Adimabua will have plenty of chances to gain outright control of the record.

Cowell’s secondary assist was his second helper of the year, bringing him up to four goal contributions total.

TTFC goalkeeper Francesco Montali saved four shots, earning his fifth shutout of 2025 and the team’s sixth. A first year member of The Town FC, Montali has been vital for a team that’s only conceded 26 total goals, the lowest in the Western Conference.

With 42 points, TTFC is even with Colorado Rapids 2 at second in the West. Aiming to gain ground on first-place St. Louis, The Town FC will return home to face Real Monarchs on Aug. 27. The match will decide the season series, as TTFC took down the Utah-based club in July but fell to it in April.

The upcoming match will kick off at 5 p.m. at The Park at Saint Mary’s Stadium.
