Adimabua logs brace, assist as The Town FC secures critical win over Sporting KC II

The Town FC’s 3-1 victory over Sporting KC II secured its first regulation victory since early June.

MORAGA, Calif. — Ten days removed from its shootout loss against Tacoma, The Town FC rebounded at home against Sporting KC II, winning 3-1 and extending its point streak to three games.

Forward Nonso Adimbua — TTFC’s leader in scoring and assists — recorded his sixth and seventh goals of the season to help the team edge out SKCII. Sunday’s brace was his second time scoring at least two goals in a game, as he tallied a hat trick on May 4. He ignited energy at The Park at Saint Mary’s Stadium early, scoring his first goal in the 12th minute to give The Town FC a 1-0 lead.

Adimabua fired the ball from outside the box off a clean pass from midfielder Cruz Medina, who tallied his second assist of the season. TTFC’s first-half scoring wasn’t done yet, as forward Missael Rodríguez doubled the team’s lead in the 35th minute to continue the upward momentum.

Rodríguez timed his run behind the defense perfectly and received a deep feed from Adimabua to fire the ball into the net. Rodríguez’s four goals place him second on TTFC behind Adimabua, and he’s appeared to fit into head coach Daniel DeGeer’s system seamlessly since joining the club in 2025.

TTFC took a commanding 3-0 lead in the 53rd minute after Adimabua notched his second goal, which exhibited the chemistry between the former California Golden Bear and Rodríguez, once again. Rodríguez’s missed shot from the right side preoccupied goalkeeper Jacob Molinaro, allowing Adimabua to use his right foot to secure the brace.

Sporting KC II forward Medgy Alexandre brought his team within two goals after nailing a penalty kick in the 57th minute, but TTFC played solid defense in front of goalkeeper Francesco Montali down the stretch to secure the 3-1 victory. The result was The Town FC’s first regulation win since June 1, bringing the club to a 6-4-4 mark, with 24 points.

The Town FC’s three goals brought the club up to 31 total on the season, good for the fourth-most in the Western Conference. With 14 of 28 matches played, TTFC is at the halfway point of the season. The Earthquakes affiliate finished with 51 points in 28 matches last season, putting it on a similar trajectory to finish toward the top of the West in 2025.

Nestled in between Houston Dynamo 2 and Austin FC II at seventh in the West, TTFC will face Minnesota United FC 2 next in the second game of the homestand. Only one point behind The Town FC in the standings, MNUFC2 will offer a challenge to DeGeer and his squad. The match will begin at 5:30 p.m. on July 22 at The Park at Saint Mary’s Stadium.
