The Town FC sustains undefeated home record with shootout win over Timbers2

The Town FC hasn’t lost in regulation at home in over a year.

MORAGA, Calif. — After falling in its last match, The Town FC grabbed two points against Portland Timbers2 to improve its home record to 8-0-3.

Nonso Adimabua cemented himself in TTFC record books as he notched his 10th goal and 16th goal contribution of the year, passing former squadmen Eduardo Blancas and Max Arfsten’s single-season records of 15 contributions each.

THE TOWN FC / EARTHQUAKES II SINGLE-SEASON GOAL CONTRIBUTION RECORD LEADERBOARD:

16 – Nonso Adimabua (2025)

15 – Eduardo Blancas (2023), Max Arfsten (2022)

14 – Rudi Castro (2022)

10 – Riley Lynch (2024), Eduardo Blancas (2022)

Adimabua’s goal arrived two minutes after the starting whistle, as he took advantage of a failed Timbers2 clearance in the 18-yard box and poked the ball to the left side of the net to give TTFC a 1-0 lead.

The Town FC went on to allow two unanswered Portland goals in the first half, forcing Dan DeGeer’s club to find a late, clutch moment. Julian Donnery, who is no stranger to such moments, found himself face-to-face with Portland goalkeeper Maximilian Deisenhofer in an 80th-minute penalty kick situation. Donnery sunk it, equalizing the score at two goals apiece. Donnery — a second-half sub — had previously scored two stoppage-time goals this season, adding another timely tally to his total.

In the shootout, TTFC made four of its five shot attempts, while Portland missed two. Francesco Montali, MLS NEXT Pro’s Goalkeeper of the Month in August, made a diving save to give The Town FC the edge, which was ultimately enough for the shootout victory.

TTFC hasn’t lost in regulation at home since Aug. 4, 2024. That loss came against Timbers2.

STANDINGS WATCH:

The Town FC sits at 12-5-6, in second place in the Western Conference. The club is one point ahead of Colorado Rapids 2 and nine back of first-place St. Louis CITY2. The Town FC will have to wait another week to clinch a playoff spot. It had nine potential clinching scenarios on Saturday, but didn’t receive the help it needed from other teams.

UP NEXT:

With only five regular-season matches remaining, TTFC will hit the road next to face Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. The Town FC defeated Vancouver in their most recent matchup, and will face the Canadian-based club twice before the postseason. The match will kick off Sep. 13 at 4 p.m. at BC Place in Vancouver.
