THE TOWN, CA – The Town Group LLC is thrilled to announce the relaunch of The Town Futures Project, a community-driven initiative that aims to empower the next generation of soccer talent in local communities. This renewed effort will prioritize the grassroots development of youth soccer players, while fostering widespread access to soccer for both youth and adults to overcome barriers to participation.
This relaunch will begin with a focus on growing soccer at the community level in Oakland. The initiative will initially focus on community-based soccer leagues for youth in Oakland and southern Alameda County, with plans to expand over time.
“Support for soccer at the grassroots level requires a deep commitment to expanding access to league play,” said Benno Nagel, CEO of The Town Group. “We are focused on removing barriers to play for youth who might not otherwise participate in the traditional ‘elite’ player pathways. As an Oaklander, I’m excited to give back to my local community through expanding programming for Oakland athletes and look forward to sharing more details by the end of the summer.”
Over the next few months, The Town Futures Project will roll out exciting new programs, including opportunities for youth league participation. Local adult leagues will also play a role in bolstering team formation for both younger and older age groups, creating a connected and inclusive soccer ecosystem.
This initiative is more than a relaunch; it’s a call to unite the community through a shared love of soccer. By building connections through sport, The Town Futures Project aims to inspire and nurture young players, giving them the opportunity to dream big both on and off the field.

The Town Group LLC is a collective of forty plus local investors who have come together to support the future of soccer in the East Bay. This community-based organization launched in early 2022, and operates The Town FC, a men’s team in MLS NEXT Pro via partnership with the San Jose Earthquakes’ MLS NEXT Pro affiliate. The club seeks to offer programs for players of all ages and skill levels through their Town Futures program, from youth development to adult leagues and on to professional levels of play. The Town FC is based and plays their home games on the campus of Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, California.
