The Town, CA – The Town FC is thrilled to announce the expansion of its Town Plays initiative. This expansion will see the club host youth soccer activations at its home games, offering young players a unique opportunity to engage with the sport both as participants and spectators. The initiative continues with a youth jamboree on May 19th, when The Town FC faces off in a Cali clash against LAFC2.
Featuring six local clubs for our upcoming home game this Sunday, Diablo Valley FC, Cal Magic, Mustang SC, San Ramon FC, Vacaville United SC and Walnut Creek Surf, will bring players born in from 2013 through 2016 to partake in this jamboree style event. These activations are part of The Town FC’s broader Town Futures program, which aims to grow the sport of soccer through bringing communities throughout the East Bay together on the field.
“We’re really excited to continue to build on our concept of evolving pro sporting events for youth into an environment where they can find equal opportunities to play soccer as well as to watch soccer,” said The Town FC CEO Benno Nagel. “The setup at SMC provides a perfect location to bring this to life with the adjacent turf field next to the stadium, as well as the one-of-a-kind redwood grove area that we’ve found to be a real hit for kids to enjoy during the actual games.”
Launched in early 2022, The Town FC plays its home games on the campus of Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga. Through its partnership with the San Jose Earthquakes’ MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, the club has quickly established itself as a significant contributor to the local and regional soccer landscape.
Tennyons Wilson, Co-Founder and Head of Club Affairs added, “We’re truly grateful to all of the local clubs who have welcomed us into the region. Our plans for youth development in the East Bay region are and will remain centered on collaboration and partnership to support their work in their settings and to bring out kids to see pro soccer and be excited to go back to their clubs and continue in their development.”
This initiative underscores The Town FC’s commitment to community engagement and the development of soccer at the grassroots level. By integrating youth activities into its game-day experiences, The Town FC is setting a new standard for how professional sports organizations can play a pivotal role in fostering a love for the game among young athletes.
This weekend’s match kicks off at 5:00pm, with gates opening at 3:30pm for general admission. For jamboree participants, they can arrive early from 2:30-4:30pm and can find us on the turf field adjacent to the stadium. This event also marks the last home game at Saint Mary’s College of California until June 30th, we hope to see you there!
