The Town Council is happy to announce its newest member in former pro women’s soccer player Gina Woodward. Gina joins our growing club to help us launch our women’s soccer program, and will be a driving force for us as we gear up to take the field in 2023 and beyond. A UC Berkeley alumni and former professional soccer player with the Bay Area Breeze, Gina has tirelessly dedicated herself to continuing her playing career and has featured for teams such as the SF Nighthawks and San Ramon FC, both of the WPSL semi pro level. Beyond playing, she works as a youth director at Spurs FC and also as a performance and injury prevention professional through her gym; Next Level Soccer. Her addition to The Town FC will position her as the first female player to join our club with a role which will see her compete on the field for The Town while also being a driving member of our larger women’s soccer department and staff off of it.
Gina had this to say on her joining The Town FC and its Town Council. “I am incredibly excited and honored to be a part of such a monumental movement for women’s and men’s soccer in the Bay Area. The women’s soccer community has been yearning for a project like this to arise for some time and I am so grateful to be able contribute to creating opportunities for the future of women’s soccer in this area”
“Gina’s addition to our project signals the type of women’s program we intend to build”, said Benno Nagel, The Town FC cofounder. “This will be an effort led by women who have all lived the experience of having limited playing options available to them. There’s an entire generation of women who we’re told that it wasn’t the right time for them or that there just wasn’t enough room. We reject that thinking and intend to do something about this, with a groundbreaking effort underway to redefine the women’s soccer landscape in our region forever. Gina is a living testament to what’s possible for those who continue to pursue their dream of playing and I’m honored to have her with us as we shake things up in US Soccer and reimagine what’s possible.”
